What’s up!?!

How are you? I hope your new year is going great still. We’ve been fighting a sickness for almost a week now and it just keeps going! We’ll hopefully be able to leave our house again this weekend, but no promises 🤣

I wanted this newsletter to be something everyone could take and implement no matter the business or industry. These are all tips I 100% always give and/or start with when working with new clients. I promise you will not be disappointed if you put time and energy into these 5 tasks.

I’ll leave you with this thought: SEO isn’t about chasing trends. It’s about consistently doing the right things over time. If you focus on small, high-impact wins (like the ones below), you’ll start seeing results before you know it.

So whether you're running a SaaS company, an e-commerce store, or a local business, these five SEO moves will help you rank higher, get more traffic, and (most importantly) bring in more revenue.

Let’s get into it.

This edition is sponsored by:

They use AI to generate high-quality alt text for images, helping your site meet accessibility standards and improve SEO at the same time. It's a simple, effective way to boost your website's performance and make sure your content is easy for everyone to access.

5 SEO moves every business should make

I don’t care if you run a SaaS company, an e-commerce store, or a local bakery. SEO, at its core, never changes.

Over the years I've refined my approach and have narrowed down some key wins for every business. This is the advice I always give when I first step in to help. If you follow these steps, you’ll be miles ahead of your competition.

1. Find your “easy win” keywords

Most websites already rank for something. Seriously, go check your Google Search Console. Most businesses don’t realize they are already ranking for something.

Before you go chasing new keywords, find the ones you’re already close to ranking for and push them up.

How to do it:

  • Go to Google Search Console → Performance → Queries.

  • Filter for keywords where you rank between positions 10-30 (page 2 and 3 of Google).

  • Pick the ones with the most impressions (high search demand but just outside of page 1).

  • Optimize existing pages for those keywords by improving: title, meta description, h1-h4, and adding internal links.

2. Build internal links (it’s basically SEO magic)

Google follows links to understand which pages on your site matter most. If you’re not linking internally, you’re making Google’s job harder (and your rankings suffer).

How to do it:

  • Identify your most important pages (your best content or high-converting pages).

  • Use a tool like Ahrefs’ site audit or Google Search Console to find pages with high authority (high ranking keywords).

  • Add internal links from these high-authority pages to the ones you want to rank higher.

  • Use keyword-rich anchor text naturally.

3. Make your site faster because Google and everyone else cares!

Slow websites lose rankings and customers. Google’s Core Web Vitals measures how fast and user-friendly your site is. If your site loads like it’s stuck in dial-up days, Google will push you down.

How to do it:

  • Run your URL through PageSpeed Insights.

  • If your Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is over 2.5s, fix it by:

    • Compressing images (use my tool to compress).

    • Enabling lazy loading for images.

    • Removing unnecessary plugins and scripts.

4. Get featured snippets (steal position #0)

Featured snippets (the answer boxes at the top of Google) get tons of clicks. Winning these spots means skipping the competition and landing at the very top.

How to do it:

  • Find snippet opportunities:

  • Google your target keyword and look for a snippet (a box at the top).

  • If one exists, reverse engineer it: what format is used? A list, a table, or a short paragraph?

  • Optimize your content:

    • If Google shows a list, rewrite your content with a numbered or bullet-point list.

    • If it’s a paragraph, add a clear definition-style answer within the first 100 words.

    • If it’s a table, format your data the same way.

    • Add a H2 or H3 heading above your optimized snippet section.

5. Don’t sleep on local SEO (even if you’re not a local business)

Even SaaS companies can benefit from local visibility, Google prioritizes businesses with strong Google Business Profiles and location-based pages.

How to do it:

  • If you’re a local business, claim and optimize your Google Business Profile (fill out everything).

  • If you’re a national business, create location-based landing pages for cities you serve (like “SEO Marketing Kansas City” 👀).

  • Get local backlinks from directories and industry websites.

The Bottom Line:

SEO isn’t about chasing trends. These five steps work no matter your industry, and they set the foundation for long-term growth.
