Supercharge your local SEO with Schema markup
TL;DR: Schema markup is a game-changer for local SEO, helping search engines understand your site and boosting your visibility in local search results. This week, I’m walking you through how to use schema to stand out, with step-by-step instructions and a tool I created to make it easy. Let’s take your local SEO to the next level!
What’s up SEO family!
I hope you had a great weekend! We have been fighting off sick kids for what feels like months now and we finally made it out to see Moana 2 with both kids! It was our 2-year-old’s first movie experience and she loved it!

This week’s tip is about something that might sound super techy but is actually pretty simple—and ridiculously effective: schema markup. If you’ve ever wondered how businesses get those fancy listings with reviews, hours, and more in Google search results, the secret is schema.
And the best part? I’ve built a tool to make it super easy for you to implement schema markup, even if coding isn’t your thing. Ready to make your business stand out? Let’s do this.
Dad Joke:
Why did the marketer go broke?
Because they kept trying to rank in the “rich snippet”!
I don’t know if the jokes are getting worse or my idea of funny is 🤣
How to Use Schema Markup for Local SEO
Schema markup is structured data that helps search engines understand your website better. For local businesses, it can showcase key details like your name, address, phone number, hours, and even reviews. Here's how to make it happen.
Step 1: Understand Why Schema Markup Matters
When you add schema to your site, you’re essentially telling Google, “Hey, this is what my business is about, and here’s why it’s relevant.” Google loves that kind of clarity.
What schema can do for your business:
Highlight your business in local search results.
Increase the chances of appearing in rich snippets.
Provide searchers with key info at a glance (like your hours and contact info).
Example:
Search for a local coffee shop, and you might see a listing with:
Name, address, phone number
Reviews and ratings
Business hours
Special offers
That’s schema at work!
Step 2: Use My Local SEO Schema Generator
I get it—adding schema markup can sound intimidating. That’s why I created a tool to make it ridiculously easy.
How to use my Local SEO Schema Generator:
Go to the Local SEO Schema Generator.
Fill out the fields with your business info:
Name
Address
Phone number
Website URL
Business hours
Hit “Generate Schema”. The tool will instantly create a JSON-LD code snippet customized for your business.
Copy the code and paste it into your website’s header or a schema-specific section in your CMS.
Pro Tip: If you’re on WordPress, plugins like Rank Math or Yoast SEO have sections where you can easily add JSON-LD code.

Step 3: Validate Your Schema
Once you’ve added the schema markup to your site, it’s time to check if it’s working correctly.
How to validate your schema:
Go to Google’s Rich Results Test.
Enter your website URL or paste the JSON-LD code.
Review the results for errors or warnings.
Example:
If the tool highlights an issue like missing business hours, go back and update your schema. It’s a quick fix that ensures everything works perfectly.
Pro Tip: Re-run the test after making changes to confirm the schema is valid.
Step 4: Monitor Your Local SEO Performance
Schema markup works behind the scenes, but its effects are very visible. Keep an eye on how your business is performing in local search.
What to monitor:
Are you appearing in local search results more often?
Are you seeing an increase in calls, clicks, or visits?
Are you showing up in rich snippets or Google’s local pack?
Tools to track performance:
Google Search Console: Check your impressions and clicks for local keywords.
Google My Business Insights: Monitor search views, direction requests, and calls.
Pro Tip: Local SEO success takes time. Be patient and consistent with your efforts.
Step 5: Keep Your Schema Updated
Your schema is only as good as the info it contains. If you update your hours, move locations, or change contact details, make sure your schema reflects those changes.
Checklist for maintaining schema:
Review your schema every 6 months.
Update any fields that have changed (like holiday hours).
Revalidate your schema to ensure there are no errors.
Example:
If you’re running a special promotion, add an “offers” schema to highlight the deal and drive more clicks.
